Ines Schäfer has been studying at the Kassel University of Arts since 2015. In 2024, she earned her Master of Fine Arts degree under the guidance of Mounira al Solh and Jan Peters.

Ines Schäfer’s work is shaped by a long and intensive engagement with the themes and issues of contemporary discourse. Methodologically, she moves between strategies of artistic research, biographical approaches, and the intuitive exploration and processing of artistic forms. For Ines Schäfer, this working strategy necessarily leads to a multimedia approach—spanning performance, video, installation, and painting—through which she weaves her own insights with the viewers’ potential experiences. Thanks to her many years of study in Mounira Al Solh’s class, Schäfer’s works are characterized by multidimensional experiential offerings. A performative approach flows into numerous works and is a continuous part of the creative process within the artistic space. By interweaving digital and analog media—sometimes with recurring motifs—the artist discovers new ways of engaging with her subjects. At the core of these explorations is a fundamental questioning of established theoretical and aesthetic structures and routines. 

In Schäfer’s works, variable spaces emerge that, through shifts in media and a multi-layered choreography of reception, generate an exchange between the artist’s perceptions and those of the viewers. Through this approach, Ines Schäfer challenges traditional forms of reception by situating herself, her art, and the viewers together within a continuum of discourse.

Through her work in the art and culture collective “mania,” Ines Schäfer explores—building on her own practice—the theme of the artist’s solitary position and, through collective action and collaboration, creates a complex cultural context characterized by a plurality of opinions and forms, as well as transdisciplinarity, leading to nuanced art and exhibition concepts. Through this collaboration with other artists within the collective, as well as in cooperation with other artists and collectives, a sustainable capacity for discourse emerges that is in constant dialogue with Schäfer’s own artistic practice.
